چکیده
AbstractBackground Little is known about the economic consequences of living with severe multiple sclerosis (SMS). Aims To assess cost-effectiveness a home-based palliative approach (HPA) for people SMS (pwSMS). direct healthcare costs in this population. Methods PwSMS from three Italian centers received (2:1 ratio) HPA or usual care over six months. Direct were collected on monthly basis. Incremental was gauged national system (NHS) and personal perspective, considering Palliative Outcome Scale-Symptoms-MS (POS-S-MS) EuroQol five-dimension descriptive quality-adjusted life years (EQ-5D-3L QALYs), both completed at baseline, after Results Of 78 randomized pwSMS, 76 (50 HPA, 26 care) analyzed. Mean QALYs close to zero, mean group difference -0.006 (95% CI -0.057 0.044). The baseline-adjusted cost € -394 confidence interval, -3,532 2,743). POS-S-MS showed slight reduction symptom burden (-1.9; 95% -1.1 5.0) unchanged costs. due MS 23,195/year, almost equally distributed between NHS (€ 13,108) pwSMS 10,087). Personal care, medications home rehabilitation accounted 80% total expenditures. Most covered by these 3/4 out-of-pocket. Conclusions produced not associated an increase sustained Trial registration Current Controlled Trials ISRCTN73082124.

Assessment of Cost Effectiveness of a Firm Using Multiple Cost Oriented DEA and Validation with MPSS based DEA
Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) is a nonparametric tool for discriminating the best performers from a number of homogenous Decision Making Units (DMU). Cost oriented DEA models identify those best DMUs which run cost efficient process. This paper validates the outcome derived from the Ideal Frontier (mentioned in Sarkar. S (2014)) derived from non-central Principal Component Analysis and a slac...
متن کاملToward managed care for persons with severe mental illness: implications from a cost-effectiveness study.
Over the past two decades various models of community-based care for persons with severe mental illness have been developed. This study, which represents the first comparison of the most successful care approach (Program of Assertive Community Treatment or PACT adaptation model) with other, less intensive approaches (clinical team and intensive broker models) in a community service system, indi...
متن کاملCost of Illness of Multiple Sclerosis - A Systematic Review
BACKGROUND Cost-of-illness (COI) studies of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) are vital components for describing the economic burden of MS, and are frequently used in model studies of interventions of MS. We conducted a systematic review of studies estimating the COI of MS, to compare costs between studies and examine cost drivers, emphasizing generalizability and methodological choices. MATERIAL AND ...

Clinical outcomes and cost effectiveness of two aftercare models provided by general physicians and nurses to patients with severe mental illness
Background: Implementing community-based psychiatric services is one of the priorities of the WHO/EMRO mental health programs. This study presents an aftercare service, as a community based-service, for patients with severe mental illness (SMIs).
